Where Does Your Business Rank on Google?
Leaky roof? Rock chip repair? Restaurant? People aren’t searching for these with the phone book anymore. They use Google. When they search, are you being found? More important, is your Google listing above your competitors?
If you do a search for your business on Google and see the message “Own This Business?” that means your business hasn’t been claimed. But it goes beyond claiming your business.
Your listing has to be optimized with regular posts, 360 images, weekly photos and detailed information to be seen ahead of your competition.
Because first impression matter
When you do a search on Google for a business or an industry (i.e. “plumber near me”), the individual businesses and listings that come up are known as Google My Business. Just about every business has one, whether you created the account or not. That’s why it’s important for you to “claim” the business so you can have control over the information and content that customers see.
Claiming your business isn’t enough. You need to optimize it as well. Otherwise you’re left with the default image of your business that Google took the last time their car drove by and took a picture. Plus you need to respond to reviews – the good and the bad – to show people you’re engaged with your listing on Google. When you optimize your listing with 360 imagery, photos and posts, your listing moves up the ranks and becomes more visible to your potential customers.
The Google My Business app
There are two places to work with Google My Business: from the computer or from the phone. Both contain the same information. It’s just a matter of preference. Some prefer to create their posts and upload their pictures directly from their phone.
